Mid-Atlantic State Recovery Roundtable

May 07, 2009
CSI, in partnership with Governor Martin O’Malley’s office and the Annie E. Casey Foundation, organized a regional state roundtable on high road implementation of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act stimulus package. The meeting, hosted in Annapolis by Governor O’Malley, convened high-level Governors’ office staff, senior agency officials, and other key members of state recovery teams from DE, DC, MD, MA, NJ, NY, PA, RI and VA; federal government representatives from HUD, EPA, DOE, HHS, the Department of Education and GAO; and non-CSI policy experts from CAP, CBPP, CSW, ELPC, Mathematica, NELP, NGA, SAHF, SeedCo, SGA, and TWA. The meeting focused on effective, equitable, and sustainable leveraging of federal stimulus money and peer-to-peer sharing of best practices in four key policy areas: energy efficiency, workforce development, transportation, and public benefits. It also featured plenary sessions on federal accountability, featuring a GAO representative, and on state tracking and management, with a keynote presentation by Governor O’Malley on Maryland RecoveryStat. CSI agreed to facilitate further events or phone briefings on topics of interest to attending states.
