Private Financing of Infrastructure Meeting
June 09, 2011
CSI organized and co-hosted a meeting to explore innovative financing mechanisms for America’s unmet infrastructure needs. Additional conveners of the meeting included CNT, T4A, and Brookings. Federal officials representing OMB, DOT and Treasury also participated in the event, as well as experts from a range of NGOs. Discussion at the event covered the merits and limitations of current proposals to facilitate use of private capital in financing infrastructure projects in transportation, clean energy, and water treatment at the federal and state level and development of a set of methods or “tools” by which project sponsors who would customarily finance projects in long-pipeline dedicated public revenues instead leverage those with private resources, typically repaid over a period of time using some sort of public authority to share risk.
