Ohio Strategy Academy on Transportation-March 10, 2008
At the request of the Strickland administration, CSI organized a Strategy Academy on transportation and economic development in Columbus, Ohio. Participants from Ohio included the Policy Director, Cabinet Secretary, and other leadership from the Governor’s Office; and Directors and Senior Staff of Ohio’s Departments of Development, Transportation, Rail Development, Budget and Management. CSI brought energy experts and practitioners from STPP and CNT to discuss Ohio opportunities and barriers in smart growth, inter-city passenger rail, transit oriented development, and new financing options for transportation infrastructure. As a direct result of this and meeting and its follow-up it, Ohio has substantially changed the performance criteria for its transportation program. These have moved from an exclusive focus on congestion mitigation, pavement quality, and throughput to include measures on equitable development, efficient landuse, and environmental quality. Work with Ohio in implementing this fundamental change in program goals is ongoing.
