First Annual Meeting of State Policy Directors-September 18, 2008
CSI organized a nationwide meeting of State Policy Directors and other high ranking state officials from AZ, CA, CT, IL, IA, KY, MD, MA, MI, NJ, NM, NY, OH, OR, PA, TN, UT, VA, WA, and WI. Non CSI-experts at the meeting included ACEEE, Brookings, CAP, CEPR, CLASP, CNT, HIT, IPC, NPWF, LCCRUL, NGA, Pew, PSN, Public Works, SEIU, TWA, and Urban Institute. The meeting focused on economic and workforce development, energy, and fiscal challenges and opportunities states will have in the next year, with a preceding "lightning round" of suggested policy options on such diverse topics as voter access, right to rent, universal voluntary retirement accounts, foreclosure prevention, "Bank On" campaigns, poverty reduction, sectoral strategies, Skills2Compete, energy efficiency resources standards, building retrofits, state workforce reform, state performance reviews, Medicaid quality improvement, pay as you drive insurance, location efficient mortgages, broadband policies and universal sick leave.
